Police say the first 911 call came from someone who saw a man arguing with and assaulting a woman inside a silver Hundai Sonota a few minutes later. Then she was found in the street, lying next to what's believed to be the same car.

Paramedics immediately rushed her to LSU Hospital. A gun was found at the scene. Investigators say the woman was shot once in the head. The man inside the car with her at the time was arrested.

The woman is said to be in critical, but stable condition.
