A vote originally scheduled Dec. 4 by the state's top education board on whether to take over 33 low-performing schools around Louisiana has been delayed.

The schools that have been told to either increase student performance or face takeover by the state include 10 in Caddo Parish.

LaVonne Sheffield, superintendent of the Recovery School District, said she made the recommendation to postpone the vote by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to state Superintendent of Education Paul G. Pastorek because she wants more time to study the schools. She said he agreed.

The January BESE meeting is scheduled Jan 15.

Ten schools in Caddo Parish are on the list: Barrett Elementary, Caddo Heights Elementary, J.S. Clark Middle, Fair Park High, Green Oaks High, Linnear Middle, Linwood Middle, Oak Park Elementary, Booker T. Washington High and Woodlawn High.
