Robert McCoy Jr., the man facing prosecution for a triple murder in Bossier City, tried to hang himself in his jail cell in Idaho on Monday, police said.

McCoy, 34, was found hanging from a bedsheet. Jailers cut him down and started CPR until medics arrived. Medics revived McCoy and took him to the hospital, where he was treated and returned to jail.

He on suicide watch, authorities said.

McCoy is expected to be returned to Bossier Parish later this week.

Police say McCoy killed his estranged wife's parents and her teenage son in the culmination of an ongoing divorce in which his estranged wife said he stalked and terrorized her. He was captured Friday night in Lewiston, Idaho after hitching rides with truck drivers.

KTBS 3 News has learned that McCoy called a woman in Claiborne Parish the night of last week's murders and told her he had "just killed a bum." He reportedly wanted to go to Claiborne Parish, but she said no and then called Claiborne authorities, who notified Bossier City police.

Police said McCoy had a gun on him when he was captured but did not resist authorities.
