A man who escaped from an Arizona prison 30 years ago and was captured earlier this year in Caddo Parish agreed this afternoon to voluntarily return to Arizona to face prosecution.

Ruben Rodriquez-Salas, 55, was arrested earlier this year for marijuana possession. The man who was with him that day recently admitted it was his drugs.

Caddo prosecutors were about to release Rodriquez-Salas when they noticed he was a fugitive. Federal authorities were alerted.

Rodriquez-Salas was brought into U.S. District Court in Shreveport this afternoon. He agreed to be returned to Arizona to face charges there. Rodriguez-Salas was about to finish his prison sentence when he escaped, federal authorities said.
