Texarkana is trying to build a convention center. The project, which would include two hotels, is a partnership between the twin cities. The Regional Hotel and Convention center would be built just east of I-30 in the Crossroads Business Park. It would include two hotels, a Best Western and Holiday Inn Express.Officials are using 40 acres of land to build the facility. The convention center will use 10 of those acres. They expect the development to bring in business from surrounding counties and the four state area.Horace Shipp, mayor of Texarkana, Arkansas, says a feasibility study is being conducted to determine whether Texarkana can support the project. "We think that there's probably a much better chance than 50/50 that the feasibility study is going to come in and give us a green light," said Shipp. If approved, construction could be completed within two years.
