The district attorney in Winn Parish is awaiting a Louisiana State Police report on the death of a man who was handcuffed when a Winnfield police officer jolted him nine times with a Taser.
A State Police spokesman said a report on the Jan. 17 death of Baron Pikes, 21, is expected to be turned over to the D.A.'s office by Friday.
No charges have been filed against former officer Scott Nugent, who tased Pikes while arresting him on a drug charge.
Nugent was fired in May but he is appealing his dismissal
Winn District Attorney Christopher Nevils plans to review the State Police report before deciding whether to charge Nugent.
Federal authorities are monitoring the investigation but are not the lead agency in the case.
Winn Parish Coroner Randolph Williams last month ruled Pikes' death a homicide. Williams said he consulted with two other coroners, who agreed with him that Pikes died of cardiac arrest as a result of the Taser shocks.
