It's summertime. Temperatures are rising and that's not all. Police see a major increase in thefts each year around this time.
Corporal Mary Coburn says in many cases it's just petty theft -- items like lawn equipment, furniture and bikes become hot items for thieves. Coburn says A/C window units are another hot item.
That's why law enforcement officials are warning you to take precautions. Coburn says it only takes a matter of minutes for thieves to walk away with your items.
Authorities say often the items are pawned or sold for money to buy drugs or alcohol.
If your item doesn't have a serial number on it, you can mark or engrave something on it so you'll be able to identify it.
