The death of a Texas state trooper killed in a traffic stop last week is being exploited by scam artists, authorities said today.

The Cass County district attorney is warning of phone solicitors who are asking for donations for the family of slain Trooper Scott Burns.

Those getting calls shouldn't disclose personal information to anyone soliciting donations by phone, District Attorney Clint Allen cautioned.

Legitimate memorial funds have been opened at First National Bank of Linden and the Highway District 19 Credit Union in Atlanta. Those donations will go directly to the Burns family, officials said.
