Louisiana shoppers are getting a 4-percent sales tax break on most purchases today and Saturday.

The sales-tax "holiday" applies only to state sales taxes; local sales taxes still apply.

Customers will not have to pay state sales tax on purchases up to $2,500. The tax still applies to automobiles and restaurant meals.

The tax holiday began at 12:01 a.m. today and ends at midnight on Saturday.

Texas' state sales tax holiday is in two weeks.
