Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator announced today the recovery of a stolen vehicle detected by a new license plate recognition system recently purchased by the Sheriff's Office. The recovery also led to the arrest of another man for felony drug possession.
Caddo Deputy Mike Viatkus was on patrol using the license plate recognition system when it alerted on a 2008 F150 pickup traveling eastbound on I-20. Viatkus confirmed through headquarters that the vehicle was stolen, then pulled over the driver, Bobbie Kepney, who was arrested for illegal possession of stolen things.
The truck was reported stolen from a car dealership in Tallulah on August 8. It was still sporting dealer plates when Viatkus located it.
A passenger in the truck, Johnny McCray, 37, of Waskom, was also arrested. McCray was concealing 43 grams of crack cocaine in a fold in his stomach area when he was approached by deputies. He was booked into Caddo Correctional Center for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Kepney, 51,of Shreveport, was also booked into CCC. Kepney faces additional charges in Madison Parish for stealing the truck.
