A man who asked to see two emerald-cut diamond rings at a Mall St. Vincent jewelry store managed to walk out of the business with them today, Shreveport police said.

The rings -- one a 3.2-karat diamond and the other a 2-karat ring -- were stolen from Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry. The two rings had a retail value of $72,525, police said.

Police said the theft happened about 12:15 p.m. The man went into the store and asked to see two rings. The clerk handed them to him to look at, police said, and he apologized and left the store with the rings.

The suspect walked out of the mall but no one saw him get into a car, police said.

He is described as a black man, about 6-feet tall and weighing 150 pounds, with light facial hair and a short haircut. He appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s and was wearing a gray shirt and black dress pants, police said.
