An income tax break has moved forward in the Louisiana Legislature with the blessing of Gov. Bobby Jindal.

The bill by Sen. Buddy Shaw of Shreveport is a compromise measure that won the support of the governor only after its effective date was pushed back a year.

Shaw, a fellow Republican, said he approved of the compromise because it won't affect ongoing budget planning.

The House Ways and Means Committee approved the tax break today, sending it to the full House for a vote.

The measure would give a maximum break of about $500 for individual filers and $1,000 for joint filers. That tax relief would come on income tax forms filed in 2010.
