Saving lives is about to get a little easier for Shreveport firefighters thanks to one very big gift from Willis-Knighton. This gift means several new trucks will be rolling by. But they're not the huge ladder trucks we're used to seeing. These new trucks are much smaller, but just as valuable when it comes to helping citizens.
Monday morning got off to a tragic start for a woman living in the 700 block of Ockley. Authorities she was critically injured after being trapped in her burning kitchen. Given the circumstances, Shreveport firefighters had no choice but to drive the fire trucks to this call, but a lot of times, these enormous trucks aren't needed. That's why smaller EMS Sprint Units will come in very handy.
Chief Brian Crawford says the Sprint Units will save lives, time and money. The SUVs, which will be used in non-transport emergencies, cost less to drive and can go more places.
The Sprint program is thanks to Willis-Knighton Health System which donated $700,000 to get the units rolling.
As Chief Crawford said, we can expect to see three of the new Sprint units on the road in the next 3-5 months.
