Powerful remnants from Hurricane Gustav -- possibly as a strong tropical storm -- are expected to move into the ArkLaTex Monday night. The rains could stay in the area until Friday, forecasters said.
A tropical storm wind watch begins at 7 p.m. Monday for the southern part of the ArkLaTex, including the area around Natchitoches. Winds of 40-50 mph, with higher gusts, are expected.
The rest of the ArkLaTex can expects sustained winds of 35 mph on Monday.
Rain will come the those winds -- and the rain will stay after the winds die down, forecasters said.
Heavy rains will begin Monday night and are expected to continue until Wednesday. Totals from the storm could reach 10 inches in most of the area -- with some locations getting up to 20 inches of rain if the storm slows down.
The National Hurricane Center said remnants of Gustav would be in Dallas on Friday. Because of the size of the storm, the ArkLaTex could still be getting rain at that time.
The weather could resemble what happened three years ago when the remnants of Hurricane Rita came through the ArkLaTex -- although Rita moved through in less than a day.
