Firefighters face unusual challenge

Shreveport firefighters found themselves with more than just a burning house to deal with Thursday when their truck ran off the road.

Authorities say the driver of the pumper was making a sharp turn on a very narrow street when the back of the truck went into the ditch.

Instead of dwelling on the accident, firefighters immediately jumped off and fought the house fire on Martha Street. Saving the house, not their truck, was their main goal.

Before they could get the pumper out of the ditch, firefighters had to drain four tons of water from it. Once the load was lightened, the truck was ready to be towed..

No one was injured in the accident or the fire.
