The last of six inmates who escaped from the Miller County jail in Texarkana week before last has been captured in northwest Arkansas.
Authorities said Bennie Ray Johnson, 23, was arrested early today at the home of a female acquaintance in Fayetteville.
Johnson was held in the Miller County jail on aggravated robbery and second-degree battery charges when he and the others escaped on July 8. Authorities believe a guard sneaked a hacksaw inside the jail at the request of inmates, who sawed off bars covering a window and jumped out of the jail.
The investigation into the escape is continuing.
Since the escape, crews have installed expanded metal grating over the jail's windows and new security cameras have been placed on higher mounts throughout the jail so that inmates can't tamper with them.
