It could be life behind bars for a convicted drug dealer who tried to run from authorities not once, but two times. Now that he's stopped running, prosecutors plan to sentence him as habitual offender.
Authorities say Libert Roland is one man who refuses to sit still. Assistant Caddo D.A. Jason Brown says Roland proved that last October when he led sheriff's deputies and police officers on a high speed chase through Shreveport. Brown says Roland was throwing cocaine out the window and driving at speeds of 100-miles per hour.
Roland was arrested on Mansfield Road when finally stopped. Authorities say they thought he'd given up running once and for all., but that all changed this week when it came to his trial..
Brown says Roland ran to a relative's house in Shreveport's Highland area. Had police not caught him a few hours later, Brown says there's no telling where he would have gone.
Once he was brought back to court, after trying to escape twice, Libert Roland pleaded guilty to his drug charges. They included possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana third offense. Those two charges alone carry up to fifty years.
Prosecutors say he was running $10,000 worth of cocaine each week to Shreveport.
Roland's girlfriend, who was also in the car during the high-speed chase, pleaded guilty to attempted possession of cocaine. She faces up to fifteen years.
