The latest Drought Monitor , a government website that tracks weather conditions, now has most of northern Louisiana in a moderate to severe drought.

Since June 1, Shreveport, Monroe and Alexandria have received barely half the normal rain for this time of year.

However, some relief is in the forecast. A cooling front is expected to move into the area late tonight, and it could stall over the region Friday and Saturday.

The area could receive more than an inch of rain by Saturday.

Forecasters said there is a 60 percent chance of rain on Friday and a 40 percent chance on Saturday.

Temperatures will be easing. The high today will be in the upper 90s today but are expected to be in the high 80s Friday and Saturday.
