BATON ROUGE (AP) -- The executive director of the state Democratic Party has taken a leave of absence after his arrest for third-offense DWI.

State party chairman Chris Whittington said John Daniel "Danny" Ford, who has held his position since spring 2006, will take a leave of absence to work on his problem.

Baton Rouge police arrested Ford, 31, on Thursday and cited him for third-offense DWI, crossing the center line, failing to signal and reckless driving.

Ford was released on $20,000 bond, police documents show.
