Residents in South Desoto Parish are being advised to conserve water.  The well pumping water to that area started losing pressure earlier this week.

South Desoto Water System managers say the well that supplies water to more than 1,000 residents isn't pumping as much water as it should.  The system's tank usually holds 23,000 gallons of water, but it only has about half that amount now.

John Neilson, Administrator with Waterworks District No. 1, says they are making temporary repairs to boost production from an alternate well site, but until all repairs are made, officials are requesting that customers continue to conserve water.

Neilson says "I urge you to drink water for your safety, but the grass will come back next year. Lets not water the lawns, don't fill the swimming pools and lets use your old dish water to water your lawn or something like that."

The parts needed to correct the problem with the system had to be ordered, delaying repairs until Monday.  The system manager expects the customers will have to continue to conserve water after the repairs are made, to allow the well to refill.  The manager says the water is not contaminated and there is not a boil order.  Customers just need to cutback their water usage.
