The Shreveport City Council, which meets Friday to vote on the 2009 city budget, will discuss several spending cuts that will be necessary because of lower tax revenues, Councilman Ron Webb said today.

Several positions in city government will be eliminated and some jobs will be lost through attrition, Webb said.

The City Council probably will vote to postpone city payments to non-profit organizations, which are not related to basic city services.

"All of them are worthy organizations," Webb said. "What we plan to do this year is hold off until the first quarter wait and see what our tax revenue are. Then we'll disperse the money accordingly."

The Bossier City Council today passed its general fund budget, which totals approximately $50 million. Two councilmen, Jeff Darby and Don Williams, voted against the budget submitted by the mayor, saying they believe the city's spending too much money.
