The city of Shreveport is looking at building an aquarium on the downtown riverfront, the mayor's office said.

Mayor Cedric Glover was among a group of Shreveport representatives who traveled to Chattanooga, Tenn., and Atlanta last week to get information about their aquariums. The study is in its early stages and the administration has not publicly discussed how to pay for the aquarium.

The Shreveport group visited the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga and the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

Also on the trip were members of the Shreveport tourism bureau, Sci-Port Discovery Center, Downtown Development Authority and Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation.
