Caddo Parish is under a state emergency today after a night of overwhelming rain that has flooded approximately 100 homes and has waterways in danger of flooding.

City of Shreveport officials were particularly worried about Cross Lake, which was expect to go over flood stage. People who live and work along and near the lake were warned to be prepared for flooding.

Nearly 10.5 inches of rain have fallen since Wednesday night, with more rain coming this afternoon.

The record for rainfall was 12.44 inches set in 1933, Homeland Security officials said during a meeting this morning.

Between 90 and 100 homes in Shreveport had water in them at one point.

The city's drainage system is carrying water away but it was simply inundated by the amount of rain, said city Director of Operational Services director Mike Strong.
