An 11-year-old Shreveport boy was injured today when he intervened in a fight between the family Boxer and their new puppy.
Damian Gibson lost blood from bite wounds to his arms and legs and was hospitalized.
The puppy was killed in the attack, and the Boxer will be euthanized, animal services said.
The incident happened about 8:15 a.m. today at a house on Rutherford Street.
One of the brothers said the family Boxer turned on the new puppy the family had brought home this past weekend.
Damian tried to break up the dog fight and the Boxer turned on him, family members said.
Three brothers, the oldest one 18, were home together while their parents were gone. They ran across the street to their grandmother's house and she called 911.
The boys' father arrived home, went inside and was also attacked by the Boxer.
A Fire Department ambulance and animal services were called to the house. Damian was being treated this morning at Willis Knighton Pierremont hospital.
