Beaird Company, the manufacturer that ceased operations at its Shreveport plant this past spring, announced this afternoon it has sold its wind tower operations to a Korean company.
The plant, which made towers for wind turbines, was shut down in May, putting about 200 people out of a job.
Beaird said it is selling its wind tower operations and assets to Speco, a Korean company that builds wind towers for an international market.
Speco's U.S. operations will be located in Shreveport, the companies said. They did not say how many people will work at the plant.
The announcement came right after Beaird got notice from Shreveport's mayor that it was in default on its lease of the city owned property in south Shreveport.
Mayor Cedric Glover had given Beaird until the end of July to put workers back to work or risk being declared in default on its lease, which requires the plant to be operational. The company would have had 60 days to put people back to work or lose the lease on the city owned property, the administration said.
